Abstract: In this previously unpublished work, the Abbé Grégoire shows himself to be, in the nineteenth century, a stanch defender of Jansenius’s Augustinus. The role played by Jansenism in the French Revolution is thus put into relief while its foundational concepts are clearly brought out and its influence is evaluated accurately.
