Abstract: Laurent de Franquières would have remained unknown if Jean-Jacques Rousseau had not addressed a famous letter to him in January 1769 summarising his spiritual journey. The personality of Franquières is better known today thanks to his hitherto unpublished correspondance and the memories of him left by his friend Herculais.
