Abstract: Because of the sociocultural transformations characterising it, the first half of the twentieth century seemed remarkably preoccupied with the nobility, which continued to exert a fascination on writers. The nobiliary imaginary thus helped shape the mutational dynamics of literature throughout the century, in function of the parameters which, in many respects, related to a tradition that modernity sought to demolish.
