  • Publication type: Article from a collective work

Les Présidents de l’Assemblée nationale de 1789 à nos jours
  • Author: Patin (Nicolas)
  • Abstract: Paul Löbe was the president of the Reichstag for almost the entirety of the Weimar Republic, presiding over 84 % of the plenary sessions. Consubstantially attached to this function, his long career in the SPD took place in this post. By virtue of his network and personality, and his rhetorical ability, he managed to maintain the condition of the Reichstag’s existence: a sentiment of unity and ease, laughter and amusement, being the condition sine qua non of freedom from the tensions caused by the rise of Nazism.
