  • Abstract: Drawing on a poetics based on lyricism, the dramatic writing of Jean-Luc Lagarce expresses the solitude of man, and his refusal to accept his powerlessness in the face of death. As it attempts to reconstitute a new language, Lagarcian theatre seeks to move beyond the linguistic and existential degradation of the theatre of the absurd and to join Greek tragedy in an act of revalorising Aristotelian theory.
