Abstract: The study interrogates the avatar of catharsis in Joël Pommerat’s œuvre. The concept of catharsis is at the root of his aesthetics of the division of the imaginary and the real, in the context of his textual writing in the first instance, and, in the second, his writing for the stage. The two axes of cathartic efficacy which exist in Pommerat’s theatre are the emotional axis and the meditative axis.
