Abstract: Not long ago, the author discovered a little book which had been given to him many years ago, written by J.-B. J. and published in 1901. At the time, he did not notice a letter dated 1958 which had been slipped into the back pages of the book, signed Jean-Baptiste Milleret and addressed to “Jean-Benoît”. It is this letter which he has reproduced here, convinced it will be of interest to amateurs of old school manuals as well as sociologists focusing on the social milieu of school teachers in the Fourth Republic.
