• Abstract: Although the French consular network extended considerably between 1661 and 1715, it remained concentrated in the Mediterranean. This contribution studies different aspects of consular correspondence under Louis XIV, such as its frequency, the time taken for letters to be transported, the growing formalisation in the presentation of information, and security strategies, from using codes to numbering dispatches.
