Les « scènes » des Confessions (I-VI) Pour une poétique du récit factuel

  • Publication type: Article from a collective work
  • Collective work:
    Les Confessions
    . Se dire, tout dire
  • Author: Ramond (Catherine)
  • Abstract: This study applies the notion of « scene », forged by narratology and based on fictional narrative, to the factual narrative of the Confessions. Although there are numerous and often striking scenes in the Confessions, there are also notable differences between these and scenes in novels. Rousseau limits the use of direct discourse and also privileges narrative commentary in his scenes, meaning they cannot have the autonomy of the theatrical type.
