• Abstract: Abdelwahab Meddeb speaks explicitly about having “one purpose in mind: rehabilitating an obsolete poetic language, whose terms are becoming beautiful again.” (Phantasia, 1986) This article analyzes how he interprets words from the lexical field involving the night—from “the silence of the deep shadow”—beginning with “those mirages of sound,” in his retrieval of the secret that “no word can retrieve.”
