- Abstract: The present study sets out to delve into the workings of metaphor and metonymy in political speeches of one of the Mediterranean’s great languages: Greek. By reference to the field of cognitive linguistics, and by use of the principles of “Corpus Linguistics”, this corpus-based piece of research seeks to contest the validity of “corpora” –not only for purposes of lexical research, but also for the identification of instances of figurative language in context.
