Abstract: The first novel of Noëlle Revaz, Rapport aux bêtes, is rooted in an archaic rural world where the family is considered in terms of a cesspit. This violent and pessimistic vision exposes the primitive and sexual impulses which trouble individuals. It reveals the fundamental animality which structures human rapports and the raging ferocity which reigns at the heart of the couple. Its language, marked by a rhetoric of excess, offers an uncompromising look at familial monstrosities.
