Abstract: Oronce Fine was appointed to the first chair of mathematics at the Institution of Royal Lecturers in Paris. This work presents his philosophy of mathematics and his contribution to the reevaluation of the institutional and epistemological status of the discipline in the French academic sphere of the sixteenth century.
