Abstract:Le Chevalier de la charrette is a novel with links to the future. The motif of the quest that Chrétien de Troyes uses here for the first time would form the central thread of the great novelistic cycles of the following centuries. Le Chevalier de la charrette also establishes the portrait of the perfect courtly lover, faithfully obedient to his lady to the point of humiliation, a relationship that appears to imitate both that of the vassal to his suzerain and the mystic to his god. Le Chevalier de la charrette is a novel of infinite literary possibilities.
