Abstract: La Rochefoucauld's Maximes and galant literature - an unexpected and fascinating dialogue. The Maximes echo the discursive questions of morals and aesthetics that have been worked on in galant works. They reinterrogate them within the context of reality whilst subtly suggesting the ideal of the honest man.
