- Abstract: Working from the hypothesis that melancholy confronted Beckett with the assaults of what Freud calls the Superego – situated at the point of insertion of language in the body of speaking beings –, we define the originality of his response through the usages of the musicality of language (llanguage) and the promotion of the hiatus in writing. Lacan’s latest topological developments allow us to suggest a nodal configuration of this operation that sets Beckett apart from the solution found by Joyce.
