La Violence comme métaphore de l'écriture dans l'œuvre de Beckett
- Publication type: Article from a collective work
- Collective work: La Revue des lettres modernes. La Violence dans l’œuvre de Samuel Beckett. Entre langage et corps
- Author: Wessler (Éric)
- Abstract: Violence in Beckett is linked to the constitution of the human personality (filiation, sexuality). Around 1955, it undergoes a profound change in its treatment, as does the author’s style. This coincidence reveals that violence and writing reflect each other ; since Beckett ascribes to literary creation the function of rehearsing, through scenes of violence, the problematic acquisition of a personality via the gaze of others : literature palliates the failure to accede to the order of wisdom.
