Abstract: On 20 February 1847, Alexandre Dumas inaugurated the Théâtre-Historique with the creation of La Reine Margot, an adaptation of the novel which opens with the St. Bartholomew's Day massacre. Dumas reinvents the destiny of Marguerite de Valois, painting her tragic passion against a backdrop of criminality and plots for power.
