Abstract: This work brings together eight articles on the Discours de la servitude volontaire, considered from various angles: philosophical, philological, rhetorical, and linguistic. These responses to La Boétie’s essay bring new insights to long-debated questions, such as the nature of the Discours, its intended recipient, and the status of speech.
