  • Abstract: It was only after the 1960s, and even more so after the 1980s, that the Great War returned to the forefront of public attention. The 80th anniversary in 1994 and the 90th in 2004 resulted in a plethora of mediatised manifestations. It is always something of a mystery that there is such public interest surrounding this event. Why so much for this occasion ?
