- Abstract: For the Algerian émigré community, 17 October 1961 constituted the foundational, mediatised, moment of its engagement alongside the French federation of the FLN. The violence of the event legitimised the combat of Muslim Algerians installed in the metropole. It is a question of understanding how Algerian authority sought to integrate the émigrés in its reconstruction of the past, and what place it gave them in order to legitimise them.
