• Abstract: In the 1960s, the French ambassador to Rome sought to move beyond the doctrinal oppositions which separated the two Latin sisters on multilateral questions. In effect, if it had not quite come to crisis point, misunderstandings persisted. From then on, culture took a less decorative and ornamental turn in Franco-Italian relations and, for the French ambassador, “France has some interest in developing bilateral relations”.
