- Abstract: The thesis of the deception of religions, described as “libertine”, has a special status in Theophrastus redivivus, a text that is nevertheless radically atheistic: religions are all useless inventions. But Christ differs from other impostors because he invites us to follow the natural law – a message the priests have distorted. This evangelical religion has its place in a tradition of “natural religion”, as espoused by La Mothe le Vayer and Campanella.
