- Abstract: The discovery in 1749, in the pocket of a book-peddler, of a short list of “forbidden books” reveals a number of details concerning the networks of Parisian booksellers, peddlers and printers and the ways in whioch they publicised forbidden goods. Identification is possible of a number of forgotten or little-known figures playing a role in the diffusion of such works. The document also allows us to understand how an index of “fiches” was compiled by the police under the direction of inspector d’Hémery, the main actor in surveillance of the book-trade in the capital.
