Abstract: The reception of the Système de la nature in Catholic quarters immediately after its publication shows that the baron’s works are interpreted as the heritage of Cardan, Vanini and Spinoza filtered by Voltaire, Diderot et Rousseau, but some of the apologists recognise a continuity between this work and d’Holbach’s other publications. This article then deals with the strategy of refutation of atheism adopted by Christian apologists.
