- Abstract: The correspondence addressed to Nicolò Franco, the prolific writer and renowned polemicist, was retranscribed by the hand of the author in the manuscript Vaticano Latino 5642. Some illuminating examples are extracted from this vast corpus which reveal the extent to which Franco’s talents as a satirical poet and letter-writer spawned imitators in Lombard academies : cheerful language, self-derision, a variety of tones, and pastoral fantasies characterise these exchanges.
