  • Abstract: Thérèse d’Avila (1515-1582) was one of the great figures of religious life in sixteenth-century Spain. The saint found great freedom in the writing of numerous letters in which she managed to create her own identity and vision of the world, sometimes by way of a highly codified system of pseudonyms. Her letters attest to a veritable epistolary art which erased the distance between literature and life.
