- Abstract: Poèmes à Lou and Calligrammes are symptomatic of an erotic aestheticisation of war which relates to the Freudian principles of life and death impulses. This can only be understood by considering the propensity of the Apollinarean psyche to “tell” eroticism as well as the pain of love and the anguish of castration and loss: poetry shapes war, which provides the novel of love with the images it needs.
