Abstract: How does the modern novel regard politics? Kafka's Le Château, Platonov's Tchevengour and Céline's Voyage au bout de la nuit bear the trace of a historical moment, the period between World Wars in Europe, characterised by a deep crisis in social relations and by the first signs of uncertainty with regard to ideologies of collective salvation.
