- Abstract: The canons of the 18th century, whilst seeking to develop the place of music in ceremonies but without increasing their overall costs, considered the wage as the solution which allowed them to associate quality of recruitment and moderation of remuneration offered. However, their plans faced resistance from the priest being granted a benefice of lower choir. The latters were often required to accept heavier loads when the canon’s reform plans failed.
