La mélancolie cynique du poète houellebecquien, ce « chien blessé »
- Publication type: Article from a collective work
- Collective work: L’Unité de l’œuvre de Michel Houellebecq
- Author: Fustin (Ludivine)
- Abstract: This article places Houellebecq in the melancholic tradition of Western art, based on a classical definition of such a state of mind. In this way his melancholy can be seen as a falsely enlightened consciousness, cynical and disenchanted, as described by Peter Sloterdijk in his Critique of Cynical Reason. Thanks to a cynical twist, however, this melancholy gives Houellebecq access to a higher fundamental truth.
