Abstract: From the end of the sixteenth century to the beginning of the seventeenth century, a period of intense encomiastic production, critical discourse in panegyric poetry – at first defensive and justificatory – became a veritable poetic metadiscourse which translated the way poets questioned their role, art, and the writing of panegyric poetry.
