Abstract: Critical activity is present at the very heart of the troubadours lyrical œuvre, as the metaphor of the prize testifies to. And certain literary genres practised by the troubadours give form to the very first critical disputes in French literature. The critical shadow cast by the poetry of the troubadours autonomised itself until it gave birth, with the vidas, to a new narrative art.
