Abstract: This study establishes a parallel between two authors who would not normally be considered together : Artaud, icon of the avant-garde, and Valéry, often presented as a neo-classicist. Yet their common conception of energy, which goes beyond generic boundaries, situates them in a deep-rooted “indiscipline” which seeks to awaken the buried strength of signs by articulating depths in which criticism and creation are joined.
