- Abstract: When Pierre Mac Orlan first arrived in the Montmartre of the Belle Époque, he dreamt of becoming an artist-painter or drawer but his drawings did not impress the comic newspapers. Gus Bofa encouraged him to take up writing instead. This unrealised vocation is not without trace in his œuvre. This article studies the stylistic processes by which Mac Orlan transposed the characteristics of comic drawing onto the written text.
