- Abstract: At the end of the sixteenth century, Latin prosody was communicated in two-part manuals which included a lengthy dictionary and a versification guide. The appearance of this type of dictionary was contemporaneous with the emergence of French dictionaries of rhyme which began to appear in schools and were aimed at the same apprentices. Even if they were organised differently, the implicit references which French dictionaries made to the Latin manuals remained obvious up to the nineteenth century.
