- Abstract: The Chronique urbaine of Montpellier has been preserved in different manuscripts which attest to its (re)composition from the twelfth to the fourteenth century. It allows us to analyse the reconfiguration of the past carried out by the official history of a town in the Midi. These rewritings demonstrate that the foundation of civic identity lay in the consulate, which employed a process of historical reconstruction whose touchstone was none other than the elaboration of this urban chronicle under the name of “Petit thalamus”.
