• Abstract: Norman and Anglo-Norman historiography in the French language was born, instigated by Henri II, with Wace’s Roman de Rou, then the Histoire des ducs de Normandie by Benoît de Saint-Maure. By adapting two Latin texts, with very different styles, from the previous century, these two authors reconfigure the generic and stylistic constraints of their source-texts. Benoît opts for formal and generic uniformity while Wace seeks to reproduce the style of his two hypotexts.
