• Abstract: The historiographic work of Saint-Denis is based on a corpus of texts gathered together into successive “manuscript collections” from the eleventh century onwards, first at Saint-Germain-des-Prés and then at Saint-Denis, where these essays were appropriated. This article examines these manuscript-collections and the picture of Charlemagne which they paint through a selection of the sources they engage with, revealing a reluctance to integrate the Carolingian gest with its “Eginhardian” part.
