Le naturalisme chez Montaigne et Hobbes

  • Publication type: Article from a collective work

  • Abstract: If scepticism represents the specific character of Montaigne’s thought, Hobbes’ philosophy sets itself apart by its distinctively materialistic attitude, which admits no limitations, restrictions or even conditions of any kind. However, while scepticism and materialism may at first sight occupy irreconcilable positions within the history of philosophy, perhaps a common root binds these two perspectives, in which case their divergence would ultimately be only superficial.
