• Abstract: This article identifies the intertext of the last chapter of Pantagruel as the chivalric romance Guérin Mesquin, which appeared in translation in 1530. The adventures upon which Rabelais sets Pantagruel echo, sometimes precisely, those of Guérin. Rabelais, who in his work cites many chivalric stories, may have seen Guérin (by Olivier Arnoullet, a competitor of Claude Nourry) in Lyon, where the romance was printed, soon before Rabelais moved to the city.
