Abstract: This work studies Polish theatre at the turn of the Enlightenment, a time when Poland, on the brink of political crisis, shifted from an elite culture to one both nationalistic and popular. Referring to French theatre, Potocki and those writing for the Theatre of Warsaw were the agents of this evolution.
