- Abstract: Marked by the development of visual industries, the nineteenth century saw the image become an omnipresent authority in the cultural landscape. A resolutely modern genre, the prose poem integrates images into the text. Huysmans’s first writings testify to the way in which the image (industrial, artistic, optic) became a source of inspiration which not only shaped the qualities of writing but made itself the medium of the imaginary and inner images.
