Abstract: Prose poetry in À rebours is not limited to Pantin’s famous antiphony, published by Huysmans three years earlier and attributed here to his character. The analysis of works by Mallarmé and Poe led Huysmans to try and identify the ingredients of the ideal prose poem. Literary studies and theoretical reflections join forces with stylistic and rhythmic research (evidenced by the variations between the manuscript and published text), creating truly sonorous tableaux.
