Abstract: London, Paris, and Chicago were the sites and objects of important ventures in the twentieth-century social sciences, namely those carried out by Booth, Halbwachs, and Park and Burgess. This book resituates these scholars in their worlds and tests another way of writing the history of the social sciences.
