Abstract: Claude Mauger’s Grammaire françoise was one of the most widely disseminated textbooks for learning French as a foreign language in the seventeenth century. The composite work is exemplary of the type of specialist texts designed to convey all the linguistic knowledge necessary for a mastery of French.
