- Abstract: There is a generic question at stake in the rewritings of Sophocle’s Antigone in Spain in the 20th century, which is related to the representation of suicide on stage. If the suicide is skipped, is the tragic genre preserved? This paper analyses the ways of representing or hiding suicide of the greek figure nowadays. It focuses on the many ethical and aesthetic consequences of naming and showing such a horrific act in José Bergamín's play and other Spanish versions.
