- Abstract: In the old Italian Theatre, scenes of comical suicide were very popular, in Italian canvasses as well as in French plays. After 1697, the Fair took up that repertoire and renewed suicide scenes, not only in the revivals of Italian comedies but also in new plays. Easily transposed, offering a wide range of acting performances, acrobatics or parody, the scene of comical suicide is the perfect example of the influence of Italian drama on the creation of the Fair repertoire.
