- Abstract: Female dancers are performers whose profession does not aim at delivering lines or singing but staging their body through movement. It is the reason why the dancers’ image was for a long time associated with the prostitute. However, examining the way in which famous dancers such as Marie Taglioni, Loïe Fuller, Isadora Duncan, and Josephine Baker were described suggests that “the dancing woman” remained a stereotype of woman as seductress.
