- Abstract: This article examines the contracts between the fashion industry and the performing arts during the first half of the 20th century in France and in the United States. It shows the limits that were met by haute couture in its attempts to export and adapt to Broadway and Hollywood. The hegemony of Paris on fashion developed along the way in a rivalry between Paris, New York, and Los Angeles.
